What we take

Appliance Removal covers all of this

Fridges and freezers

Top-mount, French-door, bar fridges and chest freezers. Units holding refrigerant go to a facility that can recover it.

Stoves and ranges

Electric and gas ranges, wall ovens and cooktops, once the gas line has been shut off and capped by a gas technician.

Washers and dryers

Front-load, top-load and stacked pairs, including the ones wedged into a basement laundry corner.

Dishwashers

Built-in units pulled during a kitchen renovation or left sitting in the garage after the new one went in.

Air conditioners

Window units, portable units and dehumidifiers. All of them hold refrigerant and are routed accordingly.

Microwaves and range hoods

Over-the-range microwaves, countertop units and old range hoods, usually taken in the same trip as a stove.

Small appliances

Microwaves, toaster ovens, vacuums, fans and dehumidifiers, the smaller units that collect in a basement and go on the same load.

Not sure it all counts? Describe the load on the phone and get the price before anyone is sent. Call (647) 905-8815 · Mon to Sat, 7am to 5pm. Sundays: emergencies only.

Pricing

What appliance removal costs

Appliances are priced on the same truck-volume scale as any junk load. One unit within 10 km starts at $80, depending on the appliance and where it sits. Fridges carry their own disposal levy because the refrigerant has to be recovered, and that cost is in the price you hear before loading.

One fridge or one stove within 10 kmFrom $80Typical for a single unit with clear access. Fridges cost more to dispose of than stoves because of the levy.
Washer and dryer pair$125 to $175A pair usually fills the small minimum load to an eighth of the truck. Basement stairs add crew time.
Full kitchen set after a renovation$175 to $250Fridge, range, dishwasher and range hood together usually run an eighth to a quarter of a load.
Appliances plus a garage of other junk$400 to $700When appliances are part of a wider clearout, the whole job is priced as one load of half to full.

How the job runs

  1. 1

Tell us the unit and the floor

Say what the appliance is, roughly how old, and whether it sits in a basement, a kitchen or a garage. You get the price before dispatch.

  2. 2

    Have it disconnected

Water lines shut off and gas appliances capped by a gas technician before we arrive. The crew does the lifting, not the plumbing.

  3. 3

    We carry it out

Floors are protected with runners, and units are moved on a dolly with straps so stairs and door frames are not marked.

  4. 4

It goes to the right place

Refrigerant units go to a facility that can recover the gas, metal goes to recycling, and nothing is left at the curb.

Local context

Appliance Removal in Toronto homes

A fridge is the item most people discover they cannot get rid of on their own. A unit holding refrigerant cannot simply go to landfill, and most delivery crews leave the old unit behind when they bring the new one. That leaves a heavy box in the garage or on the porch with nowhere to go.

The second problem is the basement. In older Toronto houses, from York to East York, the laundry sits at the bottom of a steep, narrow staircase with a turn halfway down. Washers and dryers come out on a stair dolly with two people, one above and one below, and the treads are protected as they go.

Once the unit is on the truck, it does not go straight to landfill. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners are routed to a facility that can recover the refrigerant, and steel bodies from stoves, washers and dryers are separated for metal recycling. A single appliance usually takes 20 to 40 minutes from arrival to departure.

Frequently asked questions

Not without checking first. A fridge, freezer or air conditioner holds refrigerant that has to be recovered before disposal, so the City of Toronto has its own rules for putting one out. We take it with the refrigerant still inside and route it to a facility that can recover the gas properly.

Yes, plan on it. Shut off the water lines to a washer or fridge, and have a gas range or gas dryer disconnected and capped by a qualified gas technician before the crew arrives. Once the unit is disconnected, we handle the rest: the lifting, the stairs and the disposal.

Fridges and freezers carry their own disposal levy, because the refrigerant has to be recovered at a facility equipped for it before the unit can be recycled. A stove is mostly steel and goes to metal recycling. The difference is built into the price you hear before loading.

Yes. Basement laundry is one of the most common appliance jobs we do. Two crew members bring the units up on a stair dolly with straps, protecting the treads and walls. A narrow stairwell with a turn adds crew time but rarely stops the job.

Yes. Working appliances leave the same way as broken ones. If you would rather a working unit went to someone who can use it, tell us when you book. Metal and electronics are always separated from the rest of the load for recycling before anything goes to the transfer station.

Please empty it first. Spoiled food leaks in the truck and attracts pests at the transfer station. If the fridge has been unplugged for a while and you would rather not open it, tell us when you book so the crew can tape it shut and plan for it.
